I am currently reading a book titled "When God Doesn't Answer Your Prayer," written by Jerry Sittser. It is a very interesting book which shares about the experiences and anguish of people who have prayed to God so fervently and yet their prayers have never been answered. And the question always raised was, "why?" Is God deaf to our cries and yearnings? In this book, the writer shares to his readers the lesson he has learned in the deep places, in times of profound spiritual despair. And as the writer tackles the profound questions with which we all struggle in our everyday lives, he also offers meaningful answers without glossing over the pain involved in unanswered prayers. This book really helped me clarify so many of the hurtful misconceptions that surrounds tragedy and the struggles in our life. And, at the bottom of it all, it reminds us that God is good, and while the prayers for healing were not answered, so many other prayers were.
In my life and years of ministry, I have heard so many people crying out the same pain and anquish. They often ask, "How come God does not answer my prayer?" " I have prayed everyday so fervently that my child will be cured from his illnes, and yet he is still sick and dying?" "I have prayed that there will be peace in my family, but up to now we still cannot get along with one another." "I have prayed that we will be able to cope up with this financial crisis..and yet, up to now, we still have no way out from this crisis situation?" These and other similar prayers by people often make us wonder why their prayers have never been answered. And yet, we know as well, that there are also prayers which have been readily answered. Is God treating us fairly?
If you find time and opportunity, read this book "when God does not answer your prayer" and hopefully it may give you some answers on this perplexing question.
